One of the few remaining neoclassical buildings in Nicosia was torn down by bulldozers over the holidays, despite objections from the public.

The famous Loukoudi building in Demostheni Severi Avenue in Nicosia was demolished as funds were not available for it to be expropriated.

The Green Party expressed their objection to the demolition stating that funds are often wasted on modern luxury constructions when the few historic buildings we have in Nicosia take the brunt.

The Greens also objected to the Antiquities Department's insistent pleas to have the ‘Windmill' building in the old Nicosia General Hospital area demolished on the grounds that it blocks the view to the Archaeological Museum, which in their opinion should be clearly visible to onlookers from the street.
