Larnaca municipality announced on Monday it would start to use aerial anti mosquito spraying in the city, particularly in the Salt Lake area which is a breeding ground for the insects.

The municipality is also calling on the public to take their own measures to fight mosquitoes. People are advised to get rid of any containers that can accumulate water such as buckets, vases and old tyres as they are used for hatching by mosquitoes.

Leaking tanks should be replaced with new ones and gutters cleaned, and wild vegetation needs to be cleared so that the insects cannot find shelter.

The public is also asked to inform the municipality’s health service about swimming pools in uninhabited premises that are not being maintained.

Any complaints about mosquitoes can be addressed to the municipal complaints office at 24-816530.
