Cyprus has condemned North Korea’s weekend satellite launch via ballistic missile technology with a Foreign Ministry announcement saying this violated international obligations.

North Korea is banned under UN sanctions from using any ballistic missile technology.

“The Republic of Cyprus, in line with the EU High Representative’s Statements issued on 6 January and 7 February 2016, urges the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to engage in a constructive dialogue with the international community,” Tuesday’s announcement said.

“In particular in the framework of the Six-Party Talks, aiming at the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” it added.

The UN has vowed to impose further sanctions as punishment.
