Police will start an island-wide campaign on Monday to ensure those travelling in cars wear seatbelts.

In co-operation with the European Traffic Police web TISPOL, the police policy aims to see a reduction in the number of serious and fatal traffic accidents.

From Monday until Sunday there will be a Europe wide campaign to enforce the use of seatbelts by front and rear seat passengers.

During 2015 54 percent of drivers who died in traffic accidents were not wearing their seatbelts, while during the period 2010-1014 this figure was 66 percent.
