A tender aimed at upgrading three popular diving sites in Ayia Napa was announced by the resort’s municipality yesterday.

“The ministry of tourism has a plan for financial funding for the upgrade of points in order to support people involved in diving,” Ayia Napa Christos Zanettou explained.

Based on this, the municipality submitted an application to upgrade the infrastructure of three coastal spots, the Canyon diving site at Cape Greco, the Spilies site and the Ayioi Anargiroi site.

“Essentially, this is a design which was made on the initiative of the forestry department and concerns the installation of drystone seats, stairs and railings to enable the public to descend to the diving sites and various small-scale environmental structures to aid and protect visitors,” Zanettou said.

The estimated cost of the project is more than Euros 50,000. If it is approved by the ministry, and depending on the coronavirus, he added, work will be completed by the start of the summer season, around May.
