Renovation work to take place in an old Paphos dam has been given the go ahead. The minister of the interior, Neoclis Silikiotis, has announced that renovations of the dam, which operated for three decades, will commence next year.

The dam is situated north of the village of Ayia Marinouthda and work on the project will be completed by 2012. Silikiotis confirmed that he signed an agreement for the works on May 5TH 2009 along with all the necessary documents to ensure engineers overseeing the work would also provide after care of the ambitious project.

The contract duration is for a 32-month period, in which time an 8-month study will be taken, prior to upgrading work getting underway. The project is being realised by the allocation of funds from the European Union.
