The met office has issued a new extreme high temperature warning for Monday, the second in as many days, as Cyprus continues to sizzle at 40 degrees celsius inland.

The new yellow alert is in force from 11 am to 5 pm.

In its weather forecast for Monday, the met office said seasonal low pressure is affecting the area.

Monday will be mainly fine with temperatures rising to 40 C inland, 32 C on the west coast, around 35 C on the remaining coasts and 30 C in the mountains.

Tonight will be mainly fine with the possibility of local low cloud and patchy fog at dawn.

Temperatures tonight will fall to 24 C inland and on the south and east coasts, around 22 C on the west and north coasts and 17 C in the mountains.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be mainly fine with temperatures remaining at the same levels, which are slightly above average for the time of year.
