Nicosia - The government said on Friday that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s 24-hour visit to Cyprus on Thursday was “an absolute success”.

“It was an absolute successful visit. Politically, financially and bilaterally, the correct messages were sent out,” government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou told state radio.

Cyprus and Russia have signed a total of 15 bilateral agreements and memoranda as well as an action plan to boost relations between the two countries.

During the historic state visit by Medvedev a tax treaty on the avoidance of double taxation was also signed.

Moreover, the Russian President underlined the true friendship and unity between the two peoples and stressed that Russia’s position on the Cyprus problem remains unchanged.
