The government will soon announce incentives for the purchase of electric cars, after securing €1mln from the European Union, Transport Minister Marios Demetriades said.

“As the state we ought to provide our compatriots with incentives to buy electric cars,” the minister said.

He added that the government was currently studying various incentives and would be in a position to make an announcement soon.
Demetriades said Cyprus has secured a million euros from the EU to promote electric cars.

“But I believe that we should give more incentives because at the moment the cost is a factor that prevents people from buying more electric cars,” he said.

“This way, we hope to see more electric cars on our roads in the next one-two years.”
