European Council President Donald Tusk will meet on Tuesday, in Nicosia, with President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, ahead of an EU-Turkey meeting on the migrant crisis, scheduled for March 18.

The two men will meet at 10.00am local time (8.00 GMT) at the Presidential Palace and will later address the press, without taking, however, any questions.

The new EU-Turkey meeting, in Brussels, in the presence of Turkish Premier Ahmet Davutoğlu, was decided on March 7, when the 28-member block met with the Turkish side, in an effort to strengthen their cooperation on the migration and refugee crisis.

According to the Statement of the EU Heads of State or Government, issued after the meeting, the 28 agreed to resettle, for every Syrian readmitted by Turkey from Greek islands, another Syrian from Turkey to the EU Member States, within the framework of the existing commitments.

The also agreed to speed up the disbursement of 3 bln euros to Turkey, for aiding Syrian refugees, as well as “to prepare for the decision on the opening of new chapters in the accession negotiations as soon as possible, building on the October 2015 European Council conclusions”.
