A group of professional golfers from Austria were in Cyprus recently to learn more about the country’s sporting facilities.

According to the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) the visit’s success has led to plans for a Pro – Am tournament to be held in Cyprus at the end of the year and ‘Golf Pro Groups’ golf-learning holiday packages being organised from 2017.

Accompanied by a journalist from an Austrian magazine specialising in golf, the sportsmen visited Cyprus on the invitation of Austrian travel agent Kuoni Golfreisen, an expert in golfing holidays.

The CTO welcomed the initiative and supported the visit which saw the golfers and journalist given the chance to see the golf courses at Aphrodite Hills, Eléa, Minthis Hills and Secret Valley. They also had the opportunity to stay at Columbia Beach Resort Hotel and Aphrodite Hills hotels.

“The ultimate aim of this trip was to acquaint these golf pros with Cyprus’ golfing product,” a CTO announcement said, adding the island was particularly ideal for the sport during the winter. The visit will also contribute to efforts to promote Cyprus as a golfing holiday destination and also as an ideal place to visit to learn golf.

“Cyprus is a paradise for golf holidays, a special form of tourism that will contribute to attracting winter visitors,” the CTO said.
