Cyprus's beaches are expected to get a clean bill of health from the European Commission and designated the cleanest in Europe.

According to Phileleftheros newspaper 111, or 98.2% of beaches on the island meet EU criteria on the presence of chemical substances and bacteria or lack of it. 109 of those beaches were described as "exceptionally clean". The EU report is scheduled to be made public on Thursday. Second behind Cyprus was France and then Malta.
