Preparations for Let’s Do It!

Cyprus 2023, the largest environmental campaign and simultaneous voluntary action in Cyprus, has already begun with His Excellency the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, giving the signal for its launch. The organizational part of the launch of the campaign has been undertaken by the Environmental and Social Network “Together Cyprus” in cooperation with the Office of the Environment Commissioner, which has placed the entire campaign under its auspices. Among the supporters of the effort are the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, and the Department of Forests.

Let’s Do It! Cyprus is part of the Let’s Do It! World campaign, which aims to rid the world’s natural areas of litter and raise public awareness on issues related to the protection, conservation, and sustainable management of the terrestrial and marine environment. This campaign is the largest voluntary citizens’ movement organized in the world and was born in 2008 in Estonia. Today, the campaign involves over 210 countries and 89 million volunteers around the world.

The President of Together Cyprus, Mr. Andreas Angelis commented, “What seemed like an impossible dream six years ago has now become a reality. A group of ambitious individuals took it upon themselves to unite the whole of Cyprus for a common purpose – to clean up the environment that is neither subject to borders nor to individual interests. Nature belongs to all of us and especially to the future generations that we have to bequeath a healthy and clean place. Public institutions, private companies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, individual efforts, and informal groups join together every year to contribute, support, and strengthen our great family and effort. The potential for success lies in the hands of each individual. We are grateful.”

The campaign will be launched by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Cyprus at the Zygi Fishing Reserve on Sunday 22 October 2023. During the ceremony, the Zygi Fishing Refuge and Zygi Beach will be cleaned with the participation of various government departments and state officials, while the team will be led by the President of the Republic himself.
