Delhi - Gymnast Chrystalleni Trikomiti took world gymnastics by storm on Thursday after collecting two gold and two bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi to add to the silver medal she won on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old, who won the gold in the ribbon and rope event, silver in the individual all round, and bronze in the hoop and ball events, cried tears of joy upon completing her remarkable feat whilst, along with fellow medal winner Demetris Krassias, stamping Cyprus’ mark on world gymnastics.

Cyprus, who finished 12th out of 36 nations, had an impressive showing at the games as the island scooped in a total of 12 medals (four gold, three silver and five bronze) – the most they have ever won at the games.

Following yesterday’s triumph, Chrystalleni has become the first Cypriot athlete to win five medals at a Commonwealth Games event whilst at the same time boosting the island’s hopes for a first ever medal at the London Olympics in 2012.
