Nicosia - The Slovak National Opera will present the popular opera of Giacomo Puccini 'La Boheme' at the square in front of the Mediaeval Castle in Paphos, in the framework of the Paphos Aphrodite Festival that will be held on the 3rd, 4th and 5th September, 2010.

The Paphos Aphrodite Festival opens its gates for the twelfth consecutive year aspiring to offer a unique experience.

According to an announcement by the organisers, 'La Boheme' is the 4th in line opera of Puccini following Le Villi (1884), Edgar (1889) and Manon Lescaut (1890).

The libretto is in Italian and consists of four acts, full of tragic but also comic moments just like real life. It is based on the literary work Scenes de la vie de Boheme by the French author Henry Murger but with characteristic differences in the plot from the original work of Murger. This text was processed by the librettists Luigi Illica (1859-1919) and Giuseppe Giacosa (1847-1906).

'La Boheme' premiered on 1st February 1896 at the Teatro Regio in Turin.
