Around 6,000 people have signed up for the annual Let’s do it Cyprus cleanup campaign on Sunday April 10, Environment Commissioner Ioanna Panayiotou said on Friday.

Cyprus is one of 100 countries worldwide that participates in the global event each year – the largest voluntary environmental campaign in the world started in 2008 in Estonia.

“This year, so far we have signed up 6,000 volunteers and the number is growing daily,” Panayiotou said in a statement.

Local authorities, environmental and volunteer organisations, government departments, businesses, political parties and the public are due to take part, she added.

“Our goal is to have the participation of as many volunteers as possible, so our message reaches across Cyprus,” the statement said.
